Awareness Spotlight - Insulin Pump
Lula belle was introduced to Randy, a sweet, shy 8 year-old third grader who was recently diagnosed with Diabetes. He and and his family have struggled physically, mentally, and financially. They desperately need an Animas One Touch Ping Insulin Pump with supplies to make the daily struggle a little more manageable.
This chronic illness will never cure itself and Randy is dependent on insulin to survive. The pump will give him small doses of insulin, continuously throughout the day and night, reducing the 3 daily injections to one every three days. The fact that this is a life long illness, the injection numbers would be obscene, without the pump.
In November, Lula belle donated a portion of sales towards the expense of the pump. This act brought awareness to his school, and the PTO worked to get the pump from a local hospital. A family member from the school's staff heard Randy's story and was generous enough to offer a donation for the remainder of the cost of the pump.

Spotlight Testimonial
Just a little follow up. Randy received his insulin pump! We were able to get a donation from Norwalk Hospital for $1000.00 and we covered the rest. The other things/people didn't pan out. Randy will have it up and running on Monday, January 31st. We are so excited and looking forwards to "stable" numbers for a change. If I thought it was difficult before, this past month was worse. But, this too we shall conquer!
February 1 will be Randy's 1 year anniversairy. It will be a sad day to remember but a joyous day to celebrate. Mixed emotions I guess. At least he will be here with us to celebrate. Everything else is going well. New year, new hopes, dreams and new goals to set and reach.
Thank you so very much for everything you did for Randy and us. I think of you often. Keep up the unselfish work you do. It does make a difference. If it weren't for you, we wouldn't be where we are today.
Stay well and Happy New Year to you. Bless you.
Jane and Randy Skeen
